Nutrition & Herbal Check-Up FAQs

Clear answers, with space for your own questions.

Choosing a supplement can bring up many questions: what is in it, whether it suits you and where to begin. Here I explain how I work, what the testing means and how we keep your wider healthcare in the picture.

This service is for adults aged 18 and over, in person only. I recommend three sessions, one month apart. Before taking any product discussed, you need to check its suitability with your doctor or healthcare provider.

Understanding the nutrition consultation

What this consultation offers, and how I understand the testing.

What is a Nutrition & Herbal Check-Up?

It is a personal, in-person consultation about your wellbeing and your questions around nutrition, supplements and herbs. We begin with your experience, everyday routines and what you would like to understand more clearly.

I use several Kinesiology techniques, including the Lebowitz Method, as part of that exploration. The appointment is complementary wellbeing support, rather than a medical check-up or a replacement for a doctor’s assessment.

What is the Lebowitz Method, and do you use other approaches too?

The Lebowitz Kinesiology Method was developed by Dr Michael Lebowitz within applied Kinesiology. It uses structured muscle testing to explore responses to nutritional and herbal inputs.

I work with it alongside other specialised Kinesiology techniques and modalities. My starting point is the person in front of me: what you tell me, your circumstances and the questions we have agreed to explore.

What does it mean when something “comes up” during testing?

I apply gentle pressure and observe how an indicator muscle responds to a particular input. Within energetic specialised Kinesiology, certain changes are interpreted as stress. We then explore which inputs bring a response understood within this approach as balancing that stress in the testing situation.

This is how I interpret the response within the session. It does not establish what is happening medically in your body, or prove that you need a particular product. We consider it alongside your experience, the product information and appropriate healthcare advice.

If vitamin D comes up, does that mean I am deficient?

No. Vitamin D might change the indicator muscle response in a way we interpret as more balanced during the test. Within this framework, that suggests a possible benefit to explore; it does not measure your vitamin D level or show that you have a deficiency.

If a deficiency is suspected, your doctor can assess whether testing or supplementation is appropriate. The same distinction applies to other nutrients: a muscle response is not a laboratory result.

Can this testing identify allergies, intolerances, infections or disease?

No. Muscle testing is not a validated diagnostic method for these conditions. It also cannot establish a supplement’s safety or the dose you need.

Please seek appropriate healthcare assessment for symptoms or suspected deficiencies, allergies or intolerances. Do not stop prescribed treatment, exclude foods or try a known allergen because of a muscle-testing response.

How is this different from an Emotions & Metaphysical Kinesiology session?

This appointment focuses on your questions about nutrition and herbs, with time to review the products you already use and discuss possible next steps. An Emotions & Metaphysical Kinesiology session gives more space to emotional themes, everyday stress and a wider range of balancing techniques.

If you are unsure where to begin, we can talk about what matters most to you. The support and benefits page also describes the kinds of questions we can explore here.

What does scientific research tell us about nutrition and herbal therapy?

Nutrition and herbal therapy offer practical ways to support health and wellbeing through food choices and carefully selected plant preparations. Research on specific dietary patterns has demonstrated benefits for cardiovascular health and blood pressure, while smaller clinical trials have found improvements in depressive symptoms when structured nutrition support is added to ongoing care.

Research on particular herbal preparations has also reported positive outcomes, including relief of IBS symptoms with formulated peppermint-oil capsules, reduced nausea with ginger and improvements in anxiety with a standardized oral lavender preparation. These benefits depend on the preparation, its use and the needs of the individual.

Personal support can make a difference to how changes feel in everyday life. Participants in qualitative research on individualized dietary coaching have described greater confidence in their food choices, a clearer understanding of their needs and practical ways to make changes they can manage.

In my practice, your needs, preferences and everyday circumstances guide our work. Together, we explore appropriate food choices and herbal options, with attention to your health circumstances and any medicines you use. Alongside appropriate healthcare, we review what feels helpful and develop manageable steps that support your wellbeing.

02

Who this is for

A clear starting point, with respect for your wider care.

Do you see children or teenagers for this service?

No. Nutrition & Herbal Check-Up is for adults aged 18 and over only. This is the age boundary for this particular service, even when a parent or guardian is willing to give consent.

For a child or teenager’s nutritional or herbal questions, please speak with their doctor or an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Do I need to check with my doctor before taking a supplement or herb?

Yes. Before taking anything discussed in the session, you need to check with your doctor or healthcare provider that it is suitable for you. This includes any medicines you take, health conditions, allergies or other circumstances that may affect safety. A pharmacist can also help check medicine interactions.

Please share the exact product, full ingredients and proposed amount with them. A balanced muscle response does not replace that check. If there is a concern, we pause and clarify it before you start.

Can I come if I take prescribed medicines or already receive treatment?

Please contact me before booking and bring an up-to-date list of your medicines and other products. We can discuss whether this consultation fits alongside your existing care.

I do not advise changing or stopping prescribed treatment. Herbs and supplements can alter how a medicine works, so any proposed addition needs to be checked with your doctor or healthcare provider before use.

What if I am pregnant, breastfeeding, awaiting surgery or have a significant health condition?

Please speak with me before booking and discuss any proposed supplement with your healthcare provider. These circumstances can change which products are appropriate, and some situations fall outside the scope of my practice.

Let your medical team know about everything you take before surgery or a procedure. We follow their advice rather than assuming that a product is suitable because it is described as natural.

Can I book if I compete at elite level?

I do not offer Nutrition & Herbal Check-Up to elite-level competitors. Supplement use in competitive sport involves specific anti-doping responsibilities, including the risk of undeclared or prohibited substances. Product quality alone cannot remove that risk.

Instead, I would recommend considering an Emotions & Metaphysical Kinesiology session for support with everyday stress, emotional wellbeing and the demands around your sport, without supplement selection. For sports nutrition and supplement decisions, please work with your team doctor, sports dietitian and the relevant anti-doping guidance.

03

Your session

Time to listen, explore and understand the next step.

What happens at the first appointment?

We begin with a conversation about what brings you, your health history, everyday routines and any medicines, supplements or herbs you currently use. We choose a focus together so our time feels useful and manageable.

I explain the testing as we go and invite your questions. Before we finish, we bring our observations together, discuss possible next steps and identify anything that needs checking with your healthcare provider.

What should I bring or prepare?

Please bring the products you already use, or clear photographs of their labels showing ingredients and amounts. Include prescribed and non-prescription medicines, supplements, herbal products and relevant healthcare advice.

It can help to note what you would like to ask and any changes you have noticed. There is no need for a perfect food diary or a polished explanation. Do not stop your medicines or prescribed supplements to prepare for this appointment.

Is muscle testing uncomfortable, and do I need to undress?

You remain fully clothed. Testing uses gentle pressure rather than asking you to prove your strength. Please wear something comfortable that allows easy movement.

Tell me about pain, injury or restricted movement beforehand so I can consider suitable adaptations. You can ask me to explain a step, pause or stop whenever you need to.

Do you consider food and everyday habits as well as supplements?

Yes. Food is the foundation of nourishment, and our conversation also makes room for rest, movement and the rhythm of your day. A useful next step may be a small change in a routine or a question to take to your doctor or dietitian.

The purpose is not automatically to add more products. Supplements may be useful in particular circumstances, but they do not replace a varied diet or individual medical nutrition advice.

Will I have to follow a restrictive diet or a detox programme?

I do not use a muscle response as a reason to put you on an unnecessary exclusion diet or assume that your body needs a detox. We look for a thoughtful, proportionate next step that fits your circumstances.

If you suspect a food-related problem, a doctor or dietitian can help you investigate it and protect your nutritional intake. Your comfort around food matters as well as what is on your plate.

Is what I share confidential, and may I bring someone with me?

I treat your information with care and confidentiality, within applicable legal requirements. You are welcome to bring a trusted person if that helps you feel at ease; please let me know beforehand.

You decide how much personal detail to share. Our work is a conversation, and your questions, preferences and boundaries are part of it.

04

Products, quality & cost

Clear choices about what you take and what you pay.

What is the difference between vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements?

Vitamins and minerals are nutrients. Supplements provide them in concentrated forms, sometimes alone and sometimes combined with other ingredients. Herbal products contain preparations from plants and can vary in strength, composition and how they are made.

A tea, tincture and concentrated extract of the same plant are not necessarily interchangeable. We consider the actual product and its ingredients, rather than relying on the plant name alone.

How do you choose the quality of the products you work with?

I work with a small selection of trusted brands that I know personally. I set a high standard for the products I choose, looking for clear ingredient information and careful production, and avoiding unnecessary fillers or added substances.

The whole formula matters, including capsule ingredients and anything relevant to your sensitivities. Some added ingredients have a practical purpose, so I look at why they are there. Quality is important, but it does not by itself mean a product is suitable for every person.

Vitamins and herbs can be expensive. Do you offer a discount?

Yes. I understand that the cost of supplements can add up. To make the products we discuss more accessible, I offer 20% off the recommended retail price on the vitamins, supplements and herbs that come up during your testing, when they are ordered through me in direct connection with your session.

The consultation fee and the cost of products are separate. I explain the product price before an order is placed, so you know what you are choosing.

Do I have to buy the products through you?

No. You are welcome to ask questions and take time to decide. There is no obligation to purchase a product because it comes up during testing.

The 20% offer applies to the products selected in your session and ordered through me in direct connection with it. If you are considering a different product elsewhere, check the full formula and amount with your healthcare provider; two products with similar names may differ.

Can I take several supplements together or keep using the ones I already have?

Bring them with you so we can see the full picture. Different products may contain the same vitamins, minerals or herbs, and the amounts can add up even when each is taken according to its own label.

Your doctor or pharmacist should check combinations and any medicine interactions. We do not assume that adding another product is harmless, or that an existing one needs replacing simply because you have booked a consultation.

Does a higher dose or a stronger muscle response mean a better result?

No. More is not automatically better, and a muscle-testing response cannot determine a safe or effective dose. Some nutrients and herbs can cause harm when taken in excessive amounts.

Any product you choose needs appropriate instructions, the relevant healthcare check and a clear reason for use. Please do not increase the amount to chase a particular sensation or test response.

05

Your three sessions & follow-up

A sequence with time between meetings to reflect and review.

How many sessions do you recommend, and how far apart?

I recommend a sequence of three sessions, with one month between each appointment. The first gives us time to get to know your situation; the next two let us review your experience and any questions that arise.

This is a starting plan rather than a promise of a particular outcome. If you have a concern between appointments, please contact me rather than waiting for the next monthly meeting.

What happens at a follow-up session?

We talk about what you have tried, what your healthcare provider has advised and what you have actually noticed. We review any changes in medicines, supplements, health or daily life before continuing the exploration.

There may be a reason to keep things as they are, simplify them, ask a further question or change direction. A follow-up does not automatically mean another product or a higher dose.

What should I notice or record between appointments?

A few simple notes can help: what you started and when, the amount used, any healthcare advice and changes you notice in everyday wellbeing. Bring updated labels if a product has changed.

There is no need to watch yourself constantly. An honest account, including uncertainty or no change, gives us something useful to work with.

What if a supplement makes me feel unwell?

If you suspect a reaction to a new supplement or herb, stop that product and seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist. Seek urgent care for a serious reaction. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.

Please let me know too. Worsening symptoms should not be brushed aside as a detox or taken as proof that something is working. We can review the plan once your immediate needs have been addressed.

Do I need to keep taking products or continue sessions afterwards?

Not automatically. At the third meeting, we look back at what has been useful and decide on an appropriate next step. Further consultations should have a clear purpose.

The length of time you use a supplement depends on the product, why it is being used and your healthcare provider’s advice. The three-session sequence is not an instruction to take every product for three months or indefinitely.
