UNDERSTANDING THE APPROACH
Nutrition, herbs and the Lebowitz Method
I bring together several Kinesiology techniques and modalities, including the Lebowitz Kinesiology Method. Developed by Dr Michael Lebowitz within applied Kinesiology, this method uses structured muscle testing to explore nutritional and herbal options. It is one part of how I work, alongside listening to you and understanding your circumstances.
For me, the starting point is always you. Your experiences, everyday routines and what matters to you help shape our work together. There is room to be curious and to take things one step at a time.
How I use Kinesiology
During muscle testing, I apply gentle pressure and observe how an indicator muscle responds to a particular input. In energetic specialised Kinesiology, we interpret certain changes in that response as stress. We then explore which inputs bring a response that, within this approach, is understood as balancing or resolving that stress in the testing situation.
For example, vitamin D may come up during testing and the indicator muscle may respond in a way we interpret as more balanced. This does not mean that you lack vitamin D. Within this framework, I see it as possible support to explore. The response belongs to that testing situation; it is not a diagnosis, a measurement of your vitamin D level or proof that a supplement will benefit you.
Food, nutrients and medicinal plants
Food is the foundation of nourishment. Nutritional supplements may provide vitamins, minerals or other substances, while herbal preparations are made from medicinal plants. Working with medicinal plants is also known as phytotherapy.
We consider these alongside your food, rest, movement and the demands of daily life. When discussing a supplement or herb, we also consider its ingredients, the available evidence and your health circumstances. My wish is for you to leave with a clearer understanding and a next step that feels manageable.
What happens in a session?
We begin with a conversation and agree on a focus for your appointment. We talk through what you have noticed, your health history and any supplements, herbs or medicines you currently use.
As we move into testing, I explain what I am doing and observing. You are welcome to ask questions, share what you notice or pause at any point. We work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Before we finish, we take time to bring our observations together and talk through what comes next. This may include a small change to an everyday routine or a question to explore with your doctor, pharmacist or dietitian.
What to bring
- The supplements or herbal products you currently use, or photographs of their labels, including ingredients and doses.
- A list of your medicines, known allergies and any relevant advice from your healthcare professional.
- Your questions and the changes you have noticed in your everyday wellbeing.
Please also let me know about any health conditions, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, so we can keep these in mind.
Working alongside your care
This consultation is intended to sit alongside your healthcare. Muscle testing is not a validated way to diagnose deficiencies, allergies, intolerances, infections or disease, or to establish a supplement’s safety or the dose you need. For these questions, an assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional is important.
Before taking any supplement or herb discussed in the session, you need to check with your doctor or healthcare provider that it is suitable for you, taking account of your medicines, health conditions and any other concerns. A pharmacist can also help check medicine interactions. If you are considering changes to prescribed treatment or leaving foods out of your diet, discuss this with the relevant healthcare professional rather than relying on muscle-testing responses alone.
I do not offer this service to elite-level competitors because of the responsibilities and risks around supplements in competitive sport. If this applies to you, I recommend considering an Emotions & Metaphysical Kinesiology session for wellbeing support instead; sports nutrition and supplement decisions belong with your team doctor or sports dietitian.
